Daniel Sepiol Is the New WPT World Champion!
The 2023 WPT World Championship came to an end, but not before the final table was played out, ultimately crowning Daniel Sepiol as the surprising champion. Amidst a field of 3,835 contenders competing for a slice of the colossal $40 million guaranteed prize pool, the final six players, including Ben Heath, Chris Moorman, and Artur Martirosian, battled it out for prestige and the ultimate top prize.
Seat | Player | Count | Big Blinds |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Ben Heath | 36,700,000 | 31 bb |
2 | Andrew Lichtenbeger | 148,200,000 | 124 bb |
3 | Dan Sepiol | 34,300,000 | 29 bb |
4 | Artur Martirosian | 29,400,000 | 25 bb |
5 | Georgios Sotiropoulos | 46,200,000 | 39 bb |
6 | Chris Moorman | 88,300,000 | 74 bb |
At the start of the final table, Andrew Lichtenberger held a substantial chip lead while Sepiol found himself among the shorter stacks. However, Sepiol's effective manoeuvres swiftly altered the table dynamics. A key moment arose when Sepiol executed a daring bluff against the experienced Lichtenberger when he three-barrelled all-in with King High.
Sepiol's momentum continued when he clashed with Ben Heath, eventually clinching the chip lead despite starting the day with fewer resources. Heath's elimination followed a series of unfortunate hands, propelling Sotiropoulos into contention as Sepiol's primary rival. As the field narrowed, Chris Moorman's departure in fourth place intensified the three-handed battle, setting the stage for the ultimate climax.
After the top favorites were out, Sepiol kept on crushing his opponents, resulting in a swift elimination of Lichtenberger when Sepiol’s Jacks did hold against the Ace-King of Lichtenberger. Sepiol now was in a major position to take down the whole poker tournament, going into the heads-up with a massive chip lead.
Sepiol, who had already two Main Event titles on his name, of which one was a World Series of Poker Circuit event, became popular when he won a social media contest a couple of years ago and won a seat at a home game of DJ Steve Aoki and Phil Ivey.
Now it was time for the Sepiol show to end with a triumph in the World Poker Tour World Championship, but first, he had to take care of Greek Poker Pro Sotiropoulos. It was Sepiol who outlasted the Greek, when he spiked a 3 on the turn, holding K 3 against the K Q of his opponent.
Sepiol showcased a perfect final table poker strategy, which surely will bring him many more titles in the upcoming period. With this title, he boosted his bankroll with a massive $5,282,954 payday. For sure it was a tournament to never forget for the young American from the state of Indiana.
